  16. 1    About Netport Manager
  17.  
  18. Netport Manager is the Windows* application that you use to configure 
  19. the NetportExpress XL print server. You can use Netport Manager to 
  20. configure all other models of Netport print servers, including the 
  21. NetportExpress EL, Netport II and the original Netport print server. 
  22. You can run Netport Manager with Windows 3.1, but Netport Manager 
  23. currently does not run under OS/2*.
  24.  
  25. This release of Netport Manager includes:
  26.  
  27. -     Support for Novell NetWare Directory Services (NDS). You can load 
  28.       Netport Manager on an NDS workstation to configure the XL for 
  29.       either NDS printing or bindery printing.
  30.  
  31. -     Support for the LANDesk Alert Management System. You can be notified 
  32.       about and respond to print server events such as "printer offline" 
  33.       from the LANDesk system. 
  34.  
  35. -     "SnapIn" of the NetportExpress print server, so that you can "see" 
  36.       the NetportExpress XL from the LANDesk system.
  37.  
  38. -     Support for DMI and MIF Setup.
  39.  
  40. 6    Upgrading the Application Code for an XL
  41.  
  42. There are two choices:
  43.  
  44. -    You can save the new Application Code on a different RBL server than the 
  45.      current one. This choice allows you to gradually introduce Netports with 
  46.      NDS support into your environment.
  47.  
  48. -    You can save the new Application Code on the current RBL server. This 
  49.      choice requires you to update all Netport XL and EL print servers, both 
  50.      Ethernet and Token Ring, even if you use the new software on only one XL or EL. 
  51.  
  52. To verify that your Netport has the correct RBL and Application Code, check the 
  53. status from Netport Manager.
  54.  
  55. The software uses Flash memory, allowing Intel to provide you with enhanced 
  56. functionality while preserving your hardware investment. See the product 
  57. documentation and online Help for information about installing and configuring 
  58. your XL or EL, and how to update the Flash memory and the Application Code on 
  59. the RBL file server.
  60.  
  61. Novell NetWare: The Application Code is stored in the SYS:LOGIN directory of 
  62. the RBL file server. After you install a new version of  Netport Manager, it 
  63. then copies the new Application Code to the SYS:LOGIN directory of the RBL file 
  64. server(s) you specify as part of the XL configuration. 
  65.  
  66. To upgrade the Application Code for a configured XL
  67.  
  68. 1   Start Netport Manager and select the Netport you want to upgrade.
  69.  
  70. 2   Choose Configure.
  71.  
  72. 3   Choose Netport Hardware. Click Change RBL. The Remote Boot Load (RBL) 
  73.     Server field shows the current RBL file server. You can update the 
  74.     Application Code on this RBL server or select another.
  75.  
  76. 4   Choose OK. Netport Manager copies the latest version of the Application 
  77.     Code to the RBL server. Other XLs that use the same RBL file server will 
  78.     be upgraded when you reset them. 
  79.  
  80. To update the RBL Flash for a configured XL
  81.  
  82. 1   Start Netport Manager and select the Netport print server you want to upgrade.
  83.  
  84. 2   From the Utilities Menu, choose the Update RBL Flash option.
  85.  
  86. 3   Select the new NFLASH.NET file that you want to use to update the Netport print server.
  87.  
  88. To update LAN Manager installations
  89.  
  90. This update is necessary for you to use a NetBIOS server as an RBL server. 
  91. To do this, you'll have to stop and restart the NetBIOS Monitor.
  92.  
  93. 1    From the Netport Manager Manage menu, choose NetBIOS Monitor. You see the 
  94.      Netport Print Monitor Shutdown window.
  95.  
  96. 2    Select the Monitor Server you want to shut down. Click OK.
  97.  
  98. 3    From the LAN Manager server, run the INSTALL.CMD file from Disk #2 of the 
  99.      Netport Manager installation disks. This updates the LMNPMON.EXE program.
  100.  
  101. Note: .CMD only runs in OS/2 environments.
